World Gorilla Day – Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla)
- They live in African countries of Cameroon, Peoples Republic of Congo, Gabon, Central African Republic, & Equatorial Guinea.
- The western lowland gorilla spends most of its time on the ground but will climb trees to feed on ripe fruits & to make a sleeping nest.
- Gorillas typically live in family groups, consisting of several adult females & their offspring.
- The groups are led & protected by a dominant male known as a “silverback.”
- Wild gorillas are difficult to study because they are shy, secretive inhabitants of densely vegetated tropical forests.
