World Aquatic Animal Day – April 03, 2023
World Aquatic Animal Day
- Bat Rays are found along the Pacific Coasts of Oregon, California and near the Galapagos Islands.
- They get their name because their dark brown fins look similar to the wings of a bat.
- When threatened, the Bat Rays can sting with the venomous spine in its tail.
- They have a black or dark brown dorsal side and a white ventral side.
- Bat Rays have flat teeth packed in tight rows in their mouth to facilitate the grinding and crushing of hard-shelled prey.
- Bat Rays do not breathe through their mouths, instead have openings on top of each eye called spiracles, which help in breathing.
