Central American Agouti
The Central American Agouti is a good Rainforest Gardener
Did you Know? Central American Agouti
- The Central American Agouti buries the extra food portions around its territory for future meals. Its keen nose helps the animal locate the food again in times of need. If it buries a nut and never returns to eat it, the nut may grow into a tree.
- Central American Agouti spends most of the day searching for food or taking a dip in pool of water. When resting, it stays in burrows or hollow tree trunks safely from predators.
- The Central American Agouti has teeth designed to gnaw on very hard items, with one pair of sharp incisors in the front of the mouth. The sharp incisors keep growing throughout its lifetime, ensuring that it always has nut-cracking tools ready. The Central American Agouti uses its molars to grind its food.
